No one could have anticipated just how hard fans would fall for Betty Cooper on CW’s hit new show Riverdale, portrayed by the ah-mazing Lili Reinhart. Fans have fallen head first for the seemingly straight-edge character with a secret dark side. They’ve fallen just as hard for her boo, Jughead, too. Which is why fans have gotten to work theorizing about what’s to come for Betty and Jughead, AKA Bughead, while they wait desperately for season two of the series.
There’s one theory that Betty’s mom, Alice, and Jughead’s dad, F.P., had a secret romance in high school and that Alice’s long lost child (and Bughead’s half sibling) is the Southside Serpent, Joaquín. Then a deleted scene from the first season where the Coopers asked Jughead to live with them started making the rounds and fans wondered if it could still happen in season two (despite being deleted).
Well, Seventeen.com got to chat with Lili at the launch of St. Ives new Mixing Bar where you can make your own personalized lotions and face scrubs (like the Chipotle of skincare). We asked her what she thought of all the Bughead theories going around and what’s in store for the star-crossed lovers now that Jughead has joined the Southside Serpents and her answers might scare you.

What do you think about the fan theory that Alice and F.P. had a high school romance and that Joaquín is their love child and Betty and Jughead’s half sibling?
I feel like I want to shut that theory down. Maybe there was a romance between Alice and F.P., but Joaquín went on that bus to San Junipero and he’s just going, sadly for Kevin. But you know what? I think that was for the benefit of my sweet little Kevin. I think you don’t want to see Kevin wrapped up in a Serpent. Even though Joaquín was a good guy, had a good heart. It’s like, you want Kevin to be with someone who can be a bad boy but someone who maybe doesn’t get involved in murders. You know?
Could the deleted scene where the Coopers invited Jughead to live with them play into season two?
When we were wrapping up the season, we didn’t know if we were getting a season two and I think it was maybe a nice way to — if we didn’t get a season two — to maybe give a little bit of closure to some people. But since we did get a second season, we wanted to keep the drama going. We kept Jughead at Southside High because we didn’t want to give them a happily ever after just yet.
How will Jughead joining the Serpents affect Bughead?
There’s a definite rift in Riverdale. There’s a civil war between the Southside and the Northside. And Jughead being on the Southside and Betty’s on the Northside, it becomes a bit of a Romeo and Juliet situation. Which in a way is very romantic because when they do see each other, it’s kind of like a little reunion and there’s some really beautiful romantic moments between the two of them that I think a lot of people are going to die over. But like every CW drama, there’s drama and heartache and problems, and Bughead definitely faces some troubles in season two. But hopefully they pull out in the end and come through because I really love them together. I think they’re a beautiful couple. I think people really do enjoy seeing them together. As long as the characters keep making each other happy and make sense, then I hope they end up together.
Will Betty be drawn into the Serpents like her mom was as a teenager?
I think with Jughead mixing up in the Serpents leads Betty inevitably into that world. It’s like she doesn’t have a choice. It’s her boyfriend. She’s going to go where he goes at this point.
What’s your go-to facial product to keep your skin clear.
I use an acne cleanser. I’ve always had that St. Ives apricot scrub. But I have bad skin sometimes. Being on the show, wearing a lot of makeup makes me break out so I try a bunch of different products. And I use a toner to keep everything under control.
